One thing that surprises a lot of visitors: 봉투 [bong-tu] (plastic bags) usually cost extra now, due to environmental regulations, so cashiers will often ask if you need one.

Convenience store interactions move fast, so short, polite phrases are key. If you're declining something (a bag, a receipt, a spoon), 괜찮아요 ("it's okay/fine") on its own is enough — you don't need a full sentence.

For hot food, just hand the item to the cashier and say 데워 주세요 — they'll know exactly what to do. And if you're eating in-store, many 편의점 have small tables (테이블) — you can ask 여기서 먹어도 돼요? ("can I eat here?") if you're unsure.
