🎨 The Core Condition Family

1. 새 거 — new thing 🆕

새 (new, attributive adjective) + 거 (colloquial for 것, "thing").

이거 새 거예요. (This is new.)

새 거로 바꿔 주세요. (Please exchange it for a new one.)

— Grammar note: 새 always precedes a noun directly (새 + noun); 거 is the casual spoken form of 것.

2. 중고 — used / secondhand ♻️

A noun meaning "used" or "secondhand," often modifying another noun.

중고로 샀어요. (I bought it secondhand.)

중고 거래 앱이 인기가 많아요. (Secondhand trading apps are very popular.)

— Grammar note: 중고 + noun ("used ~") or 중고로 ("secondhand-ly," with the method marker 로).

3. 고장 — broken / malfunction 🔧

A noun describing a breakdown or malfunction, almost always paired with 나다.

이게 고장 났어요. (This is broken.)

고장이 나서 못 써요. (It's broken so I can't use it.)

— Grammar note: 고장 나다 = "to break down/malfunction" — uses 나다 ("to occur"), not 되다.

A noun for "repair," commonly paired with 하다.

— Grammar note: 수리하다 = 수리 + 하다 = "to repair" — a standard noun+하다 verb.

5. 멀쩡하다 — to be fine / intact ✅

A descriptive verb (adjective) meaning "undamaged" or "in fine condition."

핸드폰이 멀쩡해요. (The phone is fine/intact.)

떨어졌는데 멀쩡하네요. (It fell but it's still fine.)

— Grammar note: 멀쩡하다 conjugates like other -하다 adjectives → 멀쩡해요, 멀쩡한.
