🛠️ How They Work in a Sentence

• 저 = I/me, 내일 = tomorrow, 병원 = hospital, 전화하다 = to call.

• 친구와 카페에서 만나기로 했어요. [chin-gu-wa ka-pe-e-seo man-na-gi-ro hae-sseo-yo] (I decided/agreed to meet a friend at a cafe.) ☕
• 친구와 = with a friend, 카페에서 = at a cafe.

🧩 General Formation Rule

• Dictionary form → remove 다 → add 기로 했어요
• 예약하다 → 예약하기로 했어요 (decided to make a reservation)
• 도착하다 → 도착하기로 했어요 (decided/agreed to arrive)
• 읽다 → 읽기로 했어요
• 쉬다 → 쉬기로 했어요
• 하다 → 하기로 했어요
• 만들다 → 만들기로 했어요

• Action stem + 지 않기로 했어요
• 가다 → 가지 않기로 했어요
• 보다 → 보지 않기로 했어요
• 전화하다 → 전화하지 않기로 했어요

• -기로 했어요 can describe a personal decision, group decision, promise, or agreement.

• Be careful with adjective/change-verb decisions. Phrases like 건강해지기로 했어요 or 좋아지기로 했어요 are understandable, but they often sound unnatural or too vague in everyday Korean because you cannot simply “decide” a state into existence. Korean usually sounds more natural when the decision is a concrete action or resolution:
• 건강하게 살기로 했어요 [geon-gang-ha-ge sal-gi-ro hae-sseo-yo] (I decided to live healthily.)
• 매일 운동하기로 했어요 [mae-il un-dong-ha-gi-ro hae-sseo-yo] (I decided to exercise every day.)
• 더 노력하기로 했어요 [deo no-ryeo-ka-gi-ro hae-sseo-yo] (I decided to try harder.)
