Describing Your Dream Travel Destination
How to talk about where you want to go, why, and what you imagine it will be like.
🔊
Iru Helper Note
Talking about travel dreams in Korean lets you practice desire expressions, descriptive language, and personal reasons — all in one conversation. It's one of the most natural small-talk topics in Korean culture.
언젠가 꼭 가보고 싶어요.
(Someday I definitely want to go.)

✈️ What You'll Learn Today

Describing a dream travel destination in Korean means doing three things well: naming where you want to go, describing what you imagine it to be like, and explaining why it appeals to you. Today's lesson gives you the expressions to do all three — using natural desire language, descriptive adjectives, and the patterns Koreans actually use when talking about travel dreams.

📌 Key Expressions for Dream Travel Talk

Expression
Use
언젠가 꼭 가보고 싶어요
"Someday I definitely want to go" — core dream travel phrase
~에 가보고 싶어요
"I want to try going to ~" — -보다 adds "try/experience" nuance
~가 꿈의 여행지예요
"~ is my dream destination"
~의 분위기가 궁금해요
"I'm curious about the atmosphere/vibe of ~"
사진으로만 봤는데, 직접 가보고 싶어요
"I've only seen it in photos, but I want to go in person"
~에 가면 꼭 ~을 해보고 싶어요
"If I go to ~, I definitely want to try ~"
언제 한번 같이 가요!
"Let's go together sometime!" — casual travel invitation
💡 -아/어 보다 = try/experience: 가보다, 먹어보다, 해보다 all add a layer of "try and see" — they signal curiosity and anticipation, not just desire. Using -보고 싶어요 instead of just -고 싶어요 makes travel talk sound much more natural and experienced.
분위기 (atmosphere/vibe) is a key travel word:
When Koreans describe a place they want to visit, 분위기 comes up constantly: 분위기가 어떨 것 같아요? (What do you think the vibe is like?), 분위기가 좋을 것 같아요 (I think the atmosphere will be nice). Pairing 분위기 with your destination description instantly sounds more sophisticated.

💬 Conversations in Action

Dialogue 1 — Sharing your dream destination
A: 꿈의 여행지가 어디예요?
(What's your dream travel destination?)
B: 저는 이탈리아요! 사진으로만 봤는데, 직접 가보고 싶어요. 분위기가 진짜 낭만적일 것 같아요.
(Italy for me! I've only seen it in photos, but I want to go in person. The vibe seems really romantic.)
A: 맞아요, 저도 가보고 싶어요. 언젠가 같이 가요!
(Right, I want to go too. Let's go together someday!)
Dialogue 2 — Describing what you'd do there
A: 제주도에 가면 뭐 하고 싶어요?
(What do you want to do if you go to Jeju?)
B: 한라산에 꼭 올라가 보고 싶어요. 그리고 바닷가에서 그냥 멍하니 있고 싶어요.
(I definitely want to try climbing Hallasan. And I just want to zone out at the beach.)
A: 저도 그 기분 알아요. 제주도 분위기가 서울이랑 완전 달라요.
(I know that feeling too. The vibe of Jeju is completely different from Seoul.)

🌏 Cultural Note — 여행에 대한 이야기 (Talking About Travel in Korean Culture)

Travel is one of the most universally beloved small-talk topics in Korean conversation. Asking 어디 가보고 싶어요? (Where do you want to go?) or 최근에 어디 다녀왔어요? (Where did you go recently?) are extremely common conversation starters.
A few things to know about Korean travel talk:
  • 국내여행 (domestic travel) is very culturally valued — Jeju, Busan, Gyeongju, the countryside are all common dream destinations
  • When talking about overseas travel (해외여행), Japanese cities (교토, 도쿄, 오사카), European countries (프랑스, 이탈리아), and Southeast Asia (베트남, 태국) come up often
  • 힐링 여행 (healing travel) — travel specifically for rest and emotional recharge — is a very Korean concept and a completely natural thing to mention as a reason for wanting to go somewhere

Common Pitfall
