🌏 Cultural Note — 선배 and 멘토 in Korea

Nuance Warning
덕분에 vs 때문에: both can translate as "because of" but 덕분에 is used for positive outcomes (thanks to) while 때문에 is neutral or negative. 그분 덕분에 성장했어요 (positive — thanks to them I grew) vs 그분 때문에 힘들었어요 (negative — because of them it was hard). Don't mix them up.

~하게 됐어요 (ended up doing / came to do) expresses that something happened as a result of a process or influence — not just a direct decision. 이 일을 시작하게 됐어요 = "I ended up starting this work" — implying it happened through influences and circumstances, which is humble and natural in Korean.
