🌈 The Big Picture

The verb 좋아하다 ("to like") is one of the most useful verbs you'll ever learn. Just attach it to a noun with 을/를: 저는 김치를 좋아해요 ("I like kimchi"). To say something is your favorite, add 제일 or 가장 ("most") before 좋아하는: 제가 제일 좋아하는 음식은 비빔밥이에요 ("My favorite food is bibimbap"). 💖

🎭 Asking About Favorites

To ask someone's favorite within a category, use 중에서 ("among/out of"): 한국 음식 중에서 뭐가 제일 좋아요? ("Out of Korean foods, what do you like best?"). You can also use 제일/가장 with adjectives: 제일 좋아하는 계절이 뭐예요? ("What's your favorite season?"). 🎭

🧭 Speaking Tip

Adding -는 걸 좋아해요 (instead of just a noun + 좋아해요) lets you say you like doing something: 영화 보는 걸 좋아해요 ("I like watching movies"), 노래하는 걸 좋아해요 ("I like singing"). This is incredibly common and works with almost any verb! 💖

⚠️ Pitfalls to Dodge

❌ Forgetting the object particle: 김치 좋아해요 (missing 를) → ✅ More natural with 김치를 좋아해요, though casual speech sometimes drops it.

❌ Confusing 좋아요 ("I like it / it's good") with 좋아해요 ("I like [something]") → ✅ 좋아해요 needs an object; 좋아요 is a general reaction.

❌ Saying 제일 and 가장 can't be swapped → ✅ Both mean "most" and are interchangeable in casual speech.

❌ Overusing 좋아해요 for everything → ✅ Vary with 최애 (slang for "favorite"), 빠져 있어요 ("into it"), or 완전 제 스타일.
