🎨 The Core Clarity Family
1. 흐릿하다 — to be blurry / hazy 🌫️
Describes something out of focus or hard to make out — images, vision, memories, handwriting.
- 안경을 안 쓰면 글씨가 흐릿하게 보여요. (Without glasses, the text looks blurry.)
- 그 기억은 너무 오래돼서 흐릿해요. (That memory is so old it's hazy.)
Note: Works for both physical vision and abstract things like memories.
2. 선명하다 — to be clear / vivid 🔍
Describes something visually crisp and vivid — colors, images, sounds, memories.
- 이 사진은 색깔이 정말 선명해요. (The colors in this photo are so vivid.)
- 그날의 기억이 아직도 선명해요. (The memory of that day is still vivid.)
Note: The opposite of 흐릿하다 — use for visual vividness, not abstract explanations.
3. 투명하다 — to be transparent ✨
Describes something see-through — glass, water, plastic.
- 이 컵은 투명해서 안에 물이 보여요. (This cup is transparent, so you can see the water inside.)
- 그 가방은 투명한 플라스틱으로 만들어졌어요. (The bag is made of transparent plastic.)
Note: About seeing through something, not about cleanliness.
4. 뿌옇다 — to be foggy / murky white 🌁
Describes a whitish haze — fog, steam, dust, cloudy liquid.
- 안개 때문에 창밖이 뿌옇게 보여요. (Because of the fog, outside looks hazy.)
- 김이 서려서 유리창이 뿌예졌어요. (The window got foggy from the steam.)
Note: ㅎ-irregular conjugation — 뿌옇다 → 뿌예요 / 뿌옜어요 / 뿌연.
5. 시야 — field of view / visibility 👀
A noun describing what you can see from where you are — your visual range.
- 운전할 때는 시야를 잘 확보해야 해요. (When driving, you need to secure good visibility.)
- 높은 건물이 시야를 가렸어요. (A tall building blocked my view.)
Note: Pairs with 넓다/좁다 (wide/narrow) and 가리다 (to block).
